iPad Books For Children
PONG!

OUR REVIEW
Age range: 5-8
Rating: 5/5
Award: Star Buy
PONG! is lovely interactive book which children will really enjoy. It has been compared with The Gruffalo, and rightly so. A lovely, delightful rhyming tale, which includes added extras for those that want to go beyond the story and explore our solar system. We can't quite believe how low cost this book is. It gets extra points because, as adults, we enjoyed reading it to. It's a bedtime favourite. There's also audio/video so the children can entertain themselves with it during those long car journeys. Would appeal to 4-year-olds right through to 8-year-olds as each age can get different things out of the book.

THE PRESS ASSOCIATION
CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE WEEK
"If your little ones spend more time on your iPad than you, they'll love new downloadable book PONG! from debut children's author Chris McCormack.
McCormack's rhymes are as engaging as those of Julia Donaldson's The Gruffalo, and the bright, stunning illustrations by Naomi Lunn will capture the imagination of children of all ages.
The educational book also includes games and fun facts about the planets. PONG! is a must-read. A children's classic in the making. 9/10."

Grrr. We get annoyed when a book that screams out for interactivity is rendered as a page turning pdf style book. The book is chock full of facts about the weather but I would recommend buying it in print format not on the iPad. Pictures and content are fine but the technical qualities or lack of them let down this book. Things are screaming out to be pressed for further information, for videos, and widgets but all you can do is turn the pages, which are too small and too slow to turn.

THE GINGER NINJA
OUR REVIEW
Age range: 3-5
Rating: 4/5
Award: Best Video
It's a slight disappointment after the colourful cover to only get black and white illustrations inside the iBook. The screenshots make it clear that's it's all black and white inside so it wasn't a surprise but, still, the iPad screams out for colour. However, at the back of this book is a video which teaches you how to draw the feline hero - worth the price of the book alone. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the drawing class (we are quite proud of our efforts, and that's due to the good instruction in the video). The story itself is a simple and clear anti-bullying message and the book is part chapter book and part comic. Overall quite a fun read but best pitched at 6-year-olds to read to themselves than a book to read to younger ones in our opinion.

"Great to find this old favourite available for iPad! And with the added videos too. A wonderful story."
"It was totally awesome, I loved it! I look forward to the next Ginger Ninja books and hope they are just as awesome, also loved the ibook extras!!"
"Great fun, great price and great to see Ginger Ninja on sale with added extras. Shoo has made sure that the text is eye-catching, by incorporating cool line drawings full of action and energy. Hi bonus 'How to Draw' movie was worth the price alone as it clearly shows the author's own passion for his work. Loved it and more power to his elbow, iPad etc."
